Scott Matthews starts 2014 with a brand new self-produced album entitled Home Part 1, which was released in March. It is his fourth studio album.

Scott’s debut album, Passing Stranger, contained an eclectic mix of styles and featured the world renowned tabla player, Sukvinder Singh Namdari, who had played alongside such artists as Ry Cooder and Ravi Shankar. And it wasn't long before Scott was getting national airplay from the likes of Janice Long, Mark Radcliffe and Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2.
Scott's first single Elusive was released in September 2006. The single received much airplay from BBC Radio DJs Jo Whiley, Dermot O'Leary, and Zane Lowe. Lowe played Elusive once each night as his chosen 'Single of the Week'. Matthews also visited the station to perform Elusive and other songs from the album.
Scott has not only embarked on a number of sell-out headline tours, but has also been fortunate enough to tour with some of the world’s most respected artists, including, Foo Fighters, Snow Patrol, Rufus Wainwright, Tori Amos and Robert Plant.

The Glee Club at Mermaid Quay has recently been voted the best comedy venue in Wales and the South West.

Part of the prestigious Chortle Comedy Awards, which aims to profile the best in live comedy, the venue awards are voted for by both comedy fans and industry insiders, who are asked to pick their top three clubs across the UK.

It is the ninth year the Cardiff venue has won the award, since the ceremony’s inauguration 14 years ago by leading comedy industry website

More than 9,000 people voted in the best venue category, which saw The Glee Club pick up an additional award for its Birmingham site in the Midlands and the East of England.

Owner of the Glee Clubs Mark Tughan, who joined celebrities’ Joey Essex, Stewart Lee and Bobby Davro at the awards ceremony in London, said: “Once again I’ve been swept off my feet by the sheer weight of public support. Unlike other awards Chortle doesn’t ask respondents for their favourite comedy venue in each region, but their top three throughout the UK, which means both venues, are consistently being listed alongside some of the most established names in the industry.

“What makes it even better is that a lot of comedians also vote in these awards, which reaffirms my belief that not only have we created venues where audiences feel they can go to see the very best in live comedy, but also a place where comedians truly enjoy performing.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for us and made this award possible. For our part we remain committed to bringing the best in live stand-up comedy from around the world here to Cardiff.”

Other notable winners included Ed Gamble for Best Compere, Paul Sinha for Best Club Comic and Sara Pascoe for Breakthrough Act - all of whom have performed at the Glee Club during the past year.

Throughout April, Top Gun Fish and Chip Restaurant at Mermaid Quay are running a competition for local primary schools in the area. The competition has previously been run in Top Gun’s two other premises. The schools that have been selected to take part have been asked to name the new Top Gun mascot which was designed by Mumph Multimedia. The mascot follows the tradition of the previous two lighthouses, however the new mascot features a mermaid, primarily because it is located at Mermaid Quay.

The competition, which is free to enter, has two prizes.  The winning student will win a birthday party for 20 children in the new Top Gun Restaurant at Mermaid Quay and the school will win £500 to spend where deemed necessary.

The entry form has been designed to be cut when completed, so that Top Gun only receive the suggested mascot names. The other section is to be retained by the school to identify the children’s names. The winner of the competition will be asked to attend the mascot launch and be photographed with a teacher or representative from the school when the prizes will be handed out.

The entry forms should be completed and returned to Top Gun by 9th May. The winner will then be selected and will be contacted directly to arrange a photo call.

        Healthy Eating and Sustainable Sources

Top Gun uses a palm oil, which is a non hydrogenated fat, and thick cut their chips so that the surface area is greater, therefore reducing the amount of fat absorbed during cooking. Fish is high in Omega 3. Top Gun offer a full Gluten Free range including fish, chips and sausages. Red Tractor approved chickens, sustainably sourced fish and British grown potatoes.
