14 days of music at Mermaid Quay to celebrate the Volvo Ocean Race Cardiff stopover

We’ve got an amazing line up of musical talent performing at Mermaid Quay over the 14 days of the Volvo Ocean Race Cardiff stopover (27 May to 10 June) and we are still adding more acts. Check back soon to see who else has signed up.

The musical line-up currently includes:

Sunday 27 May
Tenovus Singathon
12noon – 8pm
10+ choirs & soloists performing from 12noon to 8pm, raising money for the Tenovus Cancer Care charity. Acts will include Cardiff South and Cardiff North Sing With Us choirs, GLD School of Dance and Sing & Inspire.

Monday 28 May (Bank Holiday)
The John Adams Band
12.30pm – 4.30pm
Singer/songwriter John Adams draws influences from the likes of James Morrison, Sam Smith, David Gray and James Blunt. With emotive and heartfelt narratives woven together as stories, John’s expressive and nuanced vocals compliment his acoustic approach and atmospheric piano accompaniments. John often performs at Mermaid Quay during the summer months and is hugely popular with visitors.

Mike Morgan
12noon – 4pm
Mike has been a professional musician and luthier for many years and plays in various bands in and around South Wales. He makes his own instruments. A college lecturer for the last 10 years, he now teaches at a Steiner School in Cardiff. He plays acoustic music from the last 50 years including James Taylor and The Beatles.

Session
5pm – 8.30pm
Cameron and Ceri are the voices and lead musicians of the multi-award winning function and party band Session. As winners of Best Wedding Entertainment 2018 , Cameron and Ceri perform songs from the last six decades, delivered with a fresh and modern twist. Over the last 20 years, Cameron and Ceri have recorded and released their own material and performed on many radio and TV productions. Cameron is even the current voice of the Fireman Sam theme tune!

Cardiff-based acoustic blues duo playing fun blues, R&R, gospel and ragtime on guitar and harmonica.

Soho Sopranos
12noon – 7pm
Soho Sopranos comprises husband and wife saxophonists Ray and Claire Westlake. The term ‘sopranos’ comes from the lyrical soprano saxophone, although both also play the tenor saxophone. Occasionally Ray will feature his vintage alto and Claire will solo on the flute. They play a wide mix of music which tends to be jazz-centred but extends to rock, pop or classical music as the occasion demands, and perform regularly in London and South Wales.

Alice Mee Bishop

Alice has been singing for as long as she can remember, but from the age of 11, she started training for a career in music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She now attend the BRIT school in Croydon, London and the RWCMD on the weekends. She loves singing pop, but her main repertoire is classical.

The Maddi Band
4.30pm – 8pm
The Maddi Band was formed 6 years ago after the Marconi Beach Sound advertised for a singer. Maddi had just moved to Penarth, and they were an instrumental surf rock band, but they gradually found their own take on rock and roll and performed at Penarth and Tenby festivals. They enlisted a new bassist 2 years ago, Les Jenkins, a renowned guitarist from the ‘blue lights’ and many live music venues. Their sound is very upbeat 60’s covers and the band loves to work with their audience!

Charlotte Fahey

Charlotte is an 18 year old artist, musician, singer songwriter from the Llynfi Valley. She is passionate about music & art and enjoys performing as a solo artist and has played sessions with various local bands. She plays an eclectic medley of mellow jazz, blues & rock from past and present.

Patsy Hunt
4.30 pm – 8pm
Patsy’s easy listening vibe –keyboard, ukulele and singing – is perfect for the waterfront at Mermaid Quay. Music is something she has always loved. As a child she would always be singing. Patsy started playing the trumpet when she was 9 and has been in the Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band for over 10 years playing various instruments.

Welsh music charity Live Music Now Wales musicians will be performing the penultimate day of the two week festival. Musicians will include guitarist and singer/songwriter John Nicholas, percussion group Quartet 19 and Welsh chamber folk pioneers Vri.
